I'll Always Be Right There

I spent most of my 8 hour labor, with Emmy, singing. It helped me cope with the pain.  I chose to have no painkillers for as long as I could handle it.  I labored to nearly 10cm without an epidural!!  They put it in and Emmy came out 15 minutes later.  I was even fighting the urge to push.  Lucky for me they thought I was still at 4cm.  I was checked less than 30 minutes before.  But I knew.  My body knew.  I was ready.  And they checked me after I was situated, and WOOP!! Emmy's head was RIGHT THERE!

See, I was induced because of the Pulmonary Embolism I had earlier that year.  Emmy's labor was by far the hardest thing I have ever done.  The pain was so intense, beyond what I experienced with Niko.  But interestingly, I handled it better.  I wasn't overwhelmed by it until nearly the end.  Miguel was my rock.  I leaned on him... literally.

During most of my labor tho, I had my MP3 player and I just let my heart go! I sang for Emmy and for myself.  I held my belly thru each contraction, swayed to the music, and pushed thru the pain. I remember having to hold back tears joy as I was singing.  I felt so blessed and privileged to be bringing another life into the world, to be alive!  This became my strength.

The song "I'll Always Be Right There" by Bryan Adams seemed to help the most.  I must have played this song dozens of times, each time nearly brought to tears.  My daughter has many songs!! Including:  "Capri" by Colbie Caillat and "I Won't Let Go" by Rascal Flatts.

I swear to you, I will always be there for you.  There's nothing I won't do.  I promise you, all my life I will live for you.  We will make it thru.  Forever we will be together... a family.  With all of my heart you know I'll always be right there.

  1. That is so interesting..it's amazing what music can do. Such a beautiful song to bring your daughter into this world with! She is so beautiful!

On a much smaller scale..I use music to get me through my workouts. It motivates me and it keeps me going.
